Gumi, June, 2025: India wrapped up a memorable campaign at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, South Korea, finishing second on the overall medal tally with a commendable 24 medals – 8 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze. The five-day continental showpiece featured over 2000 athletes from across Asia, with more than 60 Indian athletes competing across 30 medal events.

Key Highlights:
Avinash Sable made history by becoming the first Indian man in 36 years (1989) to win gold in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking a sensational season best of 8:20.92.
Parul Chaudhary shattered her own national record in the 3000m steeplechase, just 13 days after setting the previous one. She capped off her campaign with silver medals in both the 3000m steeplechase and the 5000m, reinforcing her dominance as one of Asia’s top long-distance runners.
Tejaswin Shankar clinched silver in the decathlon, becoming the first Indian to win two career medals in the event at the Asian Championships. His 7,618-point tally, just 16 points behind China’s Fei Xiang, also marked the end of India’s 44-year wait for a decathlon medal upgrade.
Praveen Chithravel secured silver in the men’s triple jump with an impressive leap of 16.90 meters, continuing his consistent form on the international circuit.
Vithya Ramraj, the 26-year-old from Tamil Nadu, earned a bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles, clocking 56.46 seconds in a highly competitive field.
